    "I think we need to wait a couple months to start doing marketing" is what I hear when talking to founders. Then, as we back into things, they realize, it's actually they need to start sooner than they thought. 💡Or, don't understand how long it takes to spin things up and delay it for months. When it comes time to start, it's chaos and a hurry up process that is sloppy. Chaos generally ensues from there.So, why does it take longer than most companies think? The time to set things up, the tracking, goals, and planning/strategy involved. Including... 👇1. Tracking KPIs / Conversion TrackingBefore spending a dollar on any channel, conversion tracking needs to be dialed in. The future isn't pixels, but there is still implementations, and it might take longer in the future. Just getting this setup can take time between the back and forth of most teams. Getting audiences built up after tracking is setup will also take time. Tracking SEO rankings or other SEO KPIs have to be done, but usually you need some keyword research done to understand goals deeper.2. Research is the backbone of campaigns.Want to start running Google Ads? I can guarantee you, throw in a couple keywords on broad match in a campaign you're lighting money on fire. 💵 🔥Equally as important, audience targeting can't be overly broad. Sure you might get a few conversions, but that's not real Marketing, IMO. You either will run into false positives or say “FB/IG Ads didn’t work for us.” Reality is, they were not run with any strategy and no playbook.3. Content Marketing Requires Research Whether it's keyword research to understand broadly what to create or topical research to build domain relevance, this needs to be done. There are sooo many hidden gems that aren't found unless you do this. It takes time to understand what topics people are looking for and the content pillars to create based on that. 4. Planning Makes Perfection. Planning out those SEO content pillars can be a great baseline for all your content marketing. Doing this will raise the bar overall for your domain and topical relevance. Along with that, you can use this same content for engagement via email. 5. Understanding Your Customer JourneyIf you take time to understand your Customer Journey you can plan your media buying around it. You can plan your email marketing efforts, touchpoints and cadence. Think about the entire funnel:Top of Funnel traffic to build awarenessMid Funnel Actions like browse funnelsBottom of Funnel like Remarking against checkout abandonment and add to cart? Consistent theme: Planning. If you aren't doing this, you're going to fail.You won't see results day 1 or week 1 and sometimes only directional results within a month. If you don’t have a plan, you aren’t doing research and you aren’t tracking effectively, you are wasting everyone’s time and money.Plan ahead and get things dialed in. It's free to market on media platforms and one of the best ways to connect with your desired audience. Use year 'round and consistently for the best results.4.
