Ingredients for Crock Pot Party Sausages

  • 16 oz pkg mini smoked sausages
  • 1/2 cup grape jelly
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups ketchup

How to Make Party Sausages in a Crock Pot

  1. Mix all your ingredients well in your crock pot

  2. Cover and cook on high for 1 hour

Crock Pot Party Sausages Recipe Notes:

  • I used Dotty (my2.5-quart polka dot crock pot) for this recipe, and she did a great job!
  • When looking for mini smoked sausages, I didn’t know if that meant co*cktail weenies or smoky links or what. When I picked up the package, lo and behold, it said “mini smoked sausages”.
  • As with any of our recipes, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly depending on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish.
  • All slow cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline and shouldalways be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

Can the party sausages wrapped with bacon and sprinkled in brown sugar be done in the crockpot? We love these but lately, I have over baked them.

      Hi Marcia!

I haven’t tried that yet in the crock pot. We do have that recipe with chicken. (https://www.recipesthatcrock.com/crock-pot-bacon-wrapped-chicken-bites/) I’ll add bacon wrapped sausages to my list of recipes to try and post the link back here when it is up.

FAQs

Does sausage have to be cooked before putting in crock pot? ›

Technically you don't need to brown the sausages before placing in the crock pot, but the caramelization gives the dish a delicious depth of flavor. Plus Aunt Mary always did it so we should too.

How do you know when sausage is cooked in a crock pot? ›

Things You Should Know

Use a meat thermometer to make sure your sausage is between 160 and 165 °F (71 and 74 °C). If you don't have a meat thermometer, check that the sausage is firm and has clear, runny juices. Cut it open and make sure the inside is brown, not pink.

Can you put frozen sausages in crock pot? ›

You definitely need to defrost them. and I would also brown them too. I always throw sausages straight in the slow cooker from the freezer. They won't be as 'firm' but won't hurt anything.

Can I just throw a bunch of ingredients in the crockpot? ›

For many dishes, particularly soups and stews, you really can just throw all the ingredients in.

Can you cook sausages low and slow? ›

Cook low and slow:

Our advice is to cook your sausages low and slow. You need to allow a good 20-30 minutes to cook the perfect sausage (maybe more for a really fat one).

Is it OK to put raw meat in crock pot? ›

Kornblum tells SELF that while, yes, you technically can slow-cook with raw meat, you won't get your best results this way. You'll have better luck in the flavor department if you sear it first— browning adds a nice, caramelized depth to the dish.

How do you know when sausages are cooked enough? ›

Keep cooking for 15-20 mins, moving them around in the pan and turning them over regularly so they all cook evenly. The sausages are ready when the outside is a deep golden brown and the inside is pale, with no pink meat. Any meat juices running off should be clear.

What happens if you don't defrost sausages before cooking? ›

Can you cook sausages from frozen? Yes you can cook most sausages from frozen, and this applies to most types of meat sausages and meat-free sausages. Always check the packaging or with the butcher, as they will give instructions on whether the sausages will need to be defrosted fully before cooking.

Do you have to thaw frozen sausage before cooking? ›

Although you can cook frozen sausages with an increased cooking time of roughly fifty percent, thawed sausages are easier to cook. USDA food safety guidelines recommend cooking sausage until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

Can you cook frozen sausage without thawing? ›

Sausages that you have frozen yourself will usually all be stuck together in a big lump. These will have to be thawed out to separate them, but not because you cannot cook from frozen, just make sure the core temperature reaches 70°C for at least 2 minutes.

Is 4 hours on high the same as 8 hours on low in a slow cooker? ›

The difference between "High" and "Low" on slow cookers seems to differ with every brand and model. One thing that is consistent, though, is that food takes seven to eight hours to reach a simmer point (around 210°) on low; versus three to four hours on high.

Can you put raw hamburger in crockpot? ›

You certainly can add raw ground beef to the crockpot. As a matter of fact, many (if not most) slow-cooker chili recipes ask for the meat to be added raw.

Is it safe to leave a slow cooker on overnight? ›

Yes, it's safe to leave a slow cooker on when you leave the house. The purpose of a slow cooker is to allow you to cook while you aren't home. Slow cookers simmer food slowly, killing bacteria and raising meat to the perfect internal temperature.

Should you pre cook sausages? ›

Sausages don't need much prep. Just remove them from the fridge, snip links and bring to room temperature before cooking. If you have a large volume to cook, consider steaming the sausages first to cook the meat thoroughly, then all they'll need is browning.

Does sausage need to be fully cooked? ›

To prevent foodborne illness, uncooked sausages that contain ground beef, pork, lamb or veal should be cooked to 160°F. Uncooked sausages that contain ground turkey and chicken should be cooked to 165°F. Ready-to-eat sausages are dry, semi-dry and/or cooked.

How do you cook sausages that are not precooked? ›

Use a steamer pot, fill up the bottom with about 2cm of water, turn on the heat, then cover. Once the water boils, you can start steaming. Steam the sausage for about 15 mins. Preheat a griddle or frying pan with some oil and cook the sausages until the surface is nice and brown!

Do precooked sausages need to be cooked? ›

While they have already been cooked, they may still contain harmful bacteria that can cause foodborne illness if consumed without further cooking. It is important to always follow package instructions and cook sausages to an internal temperature of 165°F to ensure they are safe to eat.
